Union minister of state for labour Bandaru Dattatreya.HYDERABAD: As part of its vision to provide healthinsurance for all, the Uniongovernment will bring domestic workers under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) fold and soon launch pilot projects in Delhi and Hyderabad in this regard, Union labour minister BandaruDattatreya said on Saturyday.
“As part of the social security, domestic workers would be brought under the ESIC. So, for the first time in the country, we will be taking up two pilot projects — in Delhi and Hyderabad. There are two components. One is employee contribution and the other one is employer contribution,” Dattatreya said.
“We will organise a workshop with all the stakeholders soon, in this regard to finalise the modalities,” said the minister. Assuring protection to workers under ESI is a positive step. The state and central governments should conduct an enrolment drive of all the domestic workers so that many may benefit under the scheme. This is a good form of social security.
