CHANDIGARH: In an embarrassment to Haryana on Independence Day, a 16-year-old dalit girl, returning home from the celebrations at her school, was gangraped by four upper caste youths at a village in Kaithal district.
According to police, one of the accomplices, Saurabh Kumar, an M Com student in a local college, was arrested and the four who had raped the girl are on the run.
DSPTarun Kumar said rape was confirmed after a medical examination and the four accused, who are also from the same village, will be arrested soon.
“Police parties are conducting raids. We have enough clues about the main accused Mohan Lal,” the DSP said. According to cops, Mohan, a B Com final year student, is known to the girl’s family . The girl, a Class XII student, is the daughter of a labourer. Police said the girl was returning from school, around 3km away from her home, when Mohan stopped her midway around 11.30am on the pretext of asking something.
Soon, three persons in a car came and threatened the class XII student with sharp-edged weapons and dragged her into the vehicle. According to the father’s complaint, Mohan also got into the car and took her to Saurabh’s house.
Once inside the house, the four youths raped the girl while Saurabh stood guard outside.After the crime, the gang dumped her outside the village and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to her family.
The girl has two elder sisters and a younger brother. The girl, a class XII student, is the daughter of a labourer.
After reaching home, the 16-year-old dalit girl narrated the entire incident to her parents, who filed a complaint with the police.
The investigation into the case has been handed over to the women’s police station in Kaithal.
