The victim’s family members told police that on Sunday evening Nooruddin confronted Rajesh when he was assaulting his mother at the house. “After the confrontation, Nooruddin went to a local mosque. As he was returning home, Rajesh stabbed him to death,” a family member of the victim told police.
“We are getting several versions pertaining to what could be the motive behind the murder. Chaderghat police are questioning the accused and the family members of the victim to get more information,” DCP, East Zone, A Ravindar said. After the incident, tension prevailed at Azampura as relatives of Nooruddin and the locals gathered in large numbers and went to Chaderghat police station.
All police personnel in the Old City have been asked to be on high alert following the incident and the Chaderghat cops brought the situation under control by talking to local community leaders. A company of Rapid Action Force was deployed at Azampura to prevent any kind of untoward incident.
Rajesh confessed that he and Nooruddin were at daggers drawn since the two had argued over a loud speaker at a place of worship during a recent festival.
