Another case of hunger death in Pakur of Jharkhand

Pakur, Jan 24 (UNI) A tribal woman allegedly died of hunger in Dhowadnagal village in Hiranpur block of this Jharkhand district, villagers claimed.


According to the villagers, the woman, identified as Lakhi Murmu (30), had not received food grains under the PDS scheme for the past four months resulting in her starvation death. 


They claimed that the woman managed to survive all these days due to the food provided by them.


Earlier, Santoshi Kumari, an 11-year-old Dalit girl from Karimati Basti, died on September 27, 2017 reportedly of starvation after her family was denied rations due to lack of Aadhaar identification.


On receiving news of the incident on Wednesday, Hiranpur BDO and block supplies officer reached the village along with the district supplies officer and inquired into the reasons for the death of the woman.

The officials maintained that paddy has been found in the home of the woman therefore it was wrong to say that she had died of hunger.


The woman use to live in the house along with her sister. The villagers alleged that for the last several days the deceased had not cooked food in her home.

This is the 12th reported killing by killer Aadhaar.
