SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Students’ Association on Monday demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the mysterious death of a student from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar.

Zeeshan Ahmad, son of Irshad Ahmad Baigh, a BAMS Student at Desh Bhagat University in Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a building. Meanwhile, Zeeshan’s father has alleged that his son was harassed by the University administration.

In a statement, the National spokesperson of the association, Adil Bhat said, “The Chief Patron of the Association Nasir Khuehami has already contacted the authorities in Punjab and has spoken to the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Baltej Pannu, who promised to provide all necessary support to expedite the investigation.

The statement reads that he University authorities have informed the Association that a three-member investigation panel has been constituted to thoroughly look into the matter. “The panel will submit its unbiased report within two days, ensuring a proper investigation.”

The Association has also appealed to the Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann, to constitute a team to probe the mysterious death of the Jammu and Kashmir student.

The statement further reads that the deceased student’s father came forward with distressing allegations of harassment faced by his son at the hands of the university.

“My son was harassed by the University administration, who imposed a hefty fine on him, causing him to fall into depression. An FIR has been lodged, pressing charges of murder and harassment, emphasizing the need for an unbiased investigation to ensure justice for my son. The University administration’s failure to provide any medical assistance or ambulance during the incident only added to the tragedy, leaving me with an irreparable loss,” he said.

Umar Jamal, the National General Secretary of the Association, stressed that there is need for a fair investigation and requested the authorities’ intervention to ensure that the probe reaches a logical conclusion
