In a shocking incident, a father-son duo allegedly cut off the nose of a woman whose husband had refused to work as a ‘bonded labourer’. The accused Narendra Singh and his father Sahab Singh, who are the members of an upper caste family at Renvjha village in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, allegedly beat the man and slashed his wife’s nose, reported PTI. As per the report, the accused allegedly beat the 35-year-old Dalit woman’s husband for refusing to do household and field work. The woman was later taking her husband to the hospital for treatment, after which 32-year-old Narendra and Sahab attacked her too and cut her nose, the police said. ANI reported, the woman was admitted to the Bundelkhand Medical College.

The incident came to light on Thursday when the woman went to a camp organized by the Madhya Pradesh Women’s Commission (MPWC) in the area to hear complaints of violation of women’s rights. The victim narrated her ordeal. While addressing the media, the MPWC chief Lata Wankhede said that the accused, who wanted to make the woman and her husband “bonded laborers”, had cut the woman’s nose. Wankhede said that she had directed the police to arrest the accused and take strict action in the case.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC and also under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and were looking for the accused who were absconding, PTI reported. RS Bagri the inspector of Surkhi police station was quoted by PTI as saying, “The woman is being treated at a hospital. We are waiting for doctor’s report about the injury to her nose. If the report confirms serious injury to the nose and internal injuries, harsher sections will be slapped against the accused.”
