Mumbai: The Bhayandar mangrove conservation cell has filed a first information report against officials of Maharashtra Maritime Board and an executive engineer of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation for destruction of mangroves. The complaint has been filed under the Environment Protection Act.
In case of Maharashtra Maritime Board, the case has been registered for carrying out dredging work in a mangrove area for construction of a jetty at Navghar taluka. The municipal executive engineer had issued a work order for construction of a compound wall around Jaisal Park, Bhayandar (east) near the railway tracks.
In both cases the work was being carried out in the Coastal Regulation Zone I and mangroves were being destroyed for the purpose. TNN
