Dentist arrested for alleged rape of teenager in Mumbai
Shukla owns four clinics in Mumbai and his employees are mostly young women. The police will probe whether he had sexually harassed any of his employees. Shukla lives at Mira Road with his wife, also a doctor, and their three-yearold child.
The survivor, a class VIII student, lives with her mother and sister. She got acquainted with Shukla five months ago when he started visiting her residence. Shukla would bring clothes, goodies and books for the girl and would take her out on picnics. He had gained her trust com pletely, said police officers.
“On November 10, Shukla asked the victim if she would like to go on a ride. When she agreed, he took her to Gorai and forced her into a shack and raped her. He later threatened her with dire consequences. Out of fear that her sister would lose her job, the girl kept mum. Shukla resumed his visits to her residence. When he tried to take her out once again on Sunday, the girl decided to tell her family about the crime,” said senior inspector Vithhal Damu gade of the Kasturba Marg police station.
On Wednesday, the girl went to her maternal uncle’s home and recounted her ordeal. He took his wife into confidence and the duo brought her to the police station. The police recorded her statement and arrested Shukla under provisions of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was produced before a Dindoshi sessions court on Thursday and remanded in police custody till December 16.
