Myth 1- Teesta Setalvad started fighting against communal forces in 2002.
Fact 1- Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand started their magazine Communalism Combat after Mumbai riots of 1992. It was in 1992 that their Media Advocacy work against communal forces began.
Myth 2- Teesta Setalvad took up the work of Legal advocacy only for victims of Post Godhra riots. The insinuation/propaganda being she has only worked for the minority community.
Fact 2 – Teesta Setalvad and her team has taken the cases of Godhra victims also in 2002. She has fought endlessly for many victims of Godhra Train also.
Myth 3 – All the families of Gulberg Society (Gujrat) have filed a case of embezzlement against Teesta Setalvad.
Fact 3 – Zakia Jafri, widow of Late Ehsan Jafri, a resident of Gulberg Society has filed a case against the rioters who killed her husband. The co-petitioner in this case is Teesta Setalvad. This petition has charges against the then Chief Minister of Gujrat and present Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi also.
Only one family and its 12 members from Gulberg Society have filed a FIR against Teesta Setalvad. They are not the office bearers of Gulberg Society but their complaint was made on the Society’s ‘stolen’ letter head. This complaint was challenged later by the office bearers and other residents of Gulberg Society.
Myth 4 – Zakia Jafri has taken her case back against Narendra Modi.
Fact 4- From the 27th July, 2015 final arguments in the Zakia Jafri case will begin. This new FIR by the CBI against Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand (directly under the PMO) needs to be seen in that light. “CBI books Teesta Setalvad and her husband for ‘illegal’ foreign aid”
Myth 5- Teesta Setalvad has made crores from her legal aid work in Gujrat
Fact 5 – Supreme court has stayed Teesta Setalvad’s arrest. She stands protected. Gujrat Police had reached Setalvad’s house in Mumbai within half an hour of Gujrat High Court’s refusal to grant her ANTICIPATORY bail. Supreme Court had also squashed all demands for judicial custody.
TOI says: “It is alleged that Sabrang Trust and CJP both received foreign contribution and this was diverted to SCPPL. Sources said Sabrang Trust received around Rs 1 crore in violation of provisions of the FCRA, 1976 as well as those of FCRA, 2010. The agency is examining documents related to the company and bank account details besides the home ministry inspection reports of SCPPL’s accounts and records for 2006-07 to 2014-15.”
“Ordering a CBI probe, home minister Rajnath Singh’s communication to the agency said, “Considering the gravity and complexity of the case and that since the amount involved is more than Rs 1 crore, it has been decided, with the approval of the competent authority, to get this matter investigated more thoroughly … The CBI is, therefore, requested to conduct an investigation into this case in terms of Section 43 to 46 of FCRA, 2010.”
A case is grave and complex because the amount involved is more than 1 Crore:). It is indeed!! Even after pulling in all the resources Centre has come up with the complex and grave amount of 1 crore.
Myth 6- Teesta Setalvad made Zahira Shaikh tell lies in the court of law
Fact 6- Supreme Court sent Zahira Shaikh behind bars for lying and flip flopping in the best bakery case. Supreme Court protected Teesta Setalvad.

Teesta Setalvad is the first and the only person in India who has sent 117 killers to jail, including a Minister of Narendra Modi’s Gujrat Government. On 27th of this month final arguments in the Zakia Jafri case will begin. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the prime accused in this case.
