An Indian studying in Australia is in a coma after being attacked by a group of people over the weekend.

According to Australian media reports, Manrajwinder Singh, the 20-year-old accounting student supposed to spend the day watching the third day of the Australia and England test at the MCG, was confronted by a group of men while returning from a nightout with friends.

Beaten with a stick and punched in the face, Singh was taken to the Alfred Hospital and put in an induced coma with serious injuries.

Police have released CCTV footage of the attack and want to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident. Police said they are looking for nine people, eight men of African appearance and one Caucasian woman.
