Parents allegedly strangle their daughter using a ‘chunni’ for marrying against their wishes

In a case of ‘honour’ killing, the parents of a software engineer, Pachala Deepthi (26), allegedly strangled her to death for marrying against their wishes at Rajendranagar here on Sunday.
Deepthi, an employee of a software company in Hyderabad, fell in love with her colleague Ananthapalli Kiran Kumar. They got married on March 21 at Arya Samaj in Hyderabad. Kumar is currently working in the US.
On learning about Deepthi’s marriage, her parents – Pachala Hari Babu and Samrajyam – went to Hyderabad and took the newly-wed couple along with other family members to Guntur on Saturday.
Parents check into lodge
Kumar and his parents checked into a lodge, while the other family members planned to visit a temple at Nagulapadu village in the district on Sunday. Meanwhile, Hari Babu and Samrajyam took their daughter to their house on Second Lane in Rajendranagar around 10 a.m. on Sunday and allegedly strangled her to death using a ‘chunni’.
As Deepthi did not respond to his phone calls, Kumar rushed to her house where she was found dead. The girl’s parents are at large, Guntur West Deputy Superintendent of Police T.V. Nagaraju told The Hindu . “Deepthi married a boy of a different caste, and her parents opposed the wedding.
A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against the girl’s parents. The Pattabhipuram police are on the hunt for accused,” said Mr. Nagaraju. Activists of various women’s organisations expressed concern over the brutal act of the parents.
