Agra: Two Dalit women were allegedly gang-raped, by nearly a dozen men in the remote area of Kagraul in Agra. The incident which took place on intervening night of June 24 and 25, was brought into the notice of SSP Agra in early hours of Thursday, after which he directed station officer of Kagraul to file an FIR in the matter and arrest the accused. The women, in their early 30s and hailing from Mathura and Rajasthan, reportedly worked for an orchestra band and had come to perform at a party at a local village. They were travelling to their accommodation from the venue in a car when they were assaulted, according to officials.

Speaking with TOI, Kagraul station officer Hari Shankar Chand said, “As per written a complaint filed by the two rape survivors, they were sexual assaulted while they were returning home after performing at a late night private party.”

“The women claimed that during the party, a heated argument took place among the viewers, after which they decided to leave the show. While heading for Mathura, show organizer Raj and his friend Jitendar boarded the car along with the women to ensure their safely, but after travelling certain distance, the two men asked the driver to stop the car and dragged the two women in a nearby field, while the driver and another woman colleague remained in the car,” the SO said.

The police official added that, according to victims, their car was being followed by a motorbike and a Bolero, in which nearly ten men, who had attended the party, were sitting. These men later joined Raj and Jitendar and took turns to rape the women.

Police have arrested Raj and Jitendar and are on the lookout for other men allegedly involved in the case. Cops have sent the survivors for medical test and lodged an FIR against a dozen men, of which 10 are unknown.

According to police, all the 12 named and unnamed persons have been booked under IPC’s sections 376 D (gang rape), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and section 325 of the ST/SC Act.
