BIJNOR: A woman was allegedly gang-raped on Sunday evening by six  men just outside her native village Jhalra in Bijnor, while on her way back home with her nephew who was thrashed by the accused. An FIR has been filed against six unknown persons.

SP (city) Kalpana Saxena said, “On Sunday evening, a woman was returning to her village along with her nephew on his bike. She said six men stopped them in their tracks. They beat up her nephew and asked him to go away. Then they took her into a field and raped her. We have registered a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. Four people have been taken into custody and we are questioning them. A forensic team has also been called to investigate further and they are working on the case. Since the boys are from a different faith, we have deployed a police team in the village to maintain order.”

Members of the woman’s community had gathered at the police station in large numbers to demand speedy redressal of the matter. The crowd was pacified only after being told that a report has been filed.
