A team of 190 trained commandos and officers of the elite Special Security Group (SSG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will provide a Z-plus security cover to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat.

The BJP’s riot-accused lawmaker in Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Rana, has been given Z category security by the Centre.

BJP’s Uttar Pradesh lawmaker Sangeet Som, accused of inciting riots in Muzaffarnagar last year, has been given top level security by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, whose hate speech kicked up a political storm and stalled Parliament, has been given VIP security. 47-year-old Jyoti now has 11 para-military personnel guarding her round-the-clock.

Controversial yoga guru Baba Ramdev has been given Z-category security which entitles him to cover of about 30-40 armed guards and an escort car. Ahead of the national election, Baba Ramdev had campaigned extensively for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the second highest security cover for Mr. Ambani. He is guarded by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandos and escorted by pilot and follow-on vehicles. This is probably the first time that a private person has been given security cover akin to prominent political leaders.

Amit Shah, a former minister of state for home of Gujarat, was arrested in 2010 in connection with the alleged fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauser Bi and Sheikh’s associate Tulsiram Prajapati.has been accorded a ‘Z-plus’ category security. Shah is guarded by paramilitary CRPF commandos round the clock and armed guards are posted at his residence. He enjoys this high level of security across the country wherever he travels.

Why do VIPs enjoy lavish security leaving the public largely unattended. Why are more than 500 crores being spent after our so called Desh Sevaks.

The Supreme Court judges had said, “We can understand security being provided to the President, Vice- President, Prime Minister, Speaker and their counter parts in the states. But what is the requirement of providing security to judges? Why is security given to those who are not in power and against whom cases are pending?”

While crores are being spent on security of these people, many of whom have a criminal background, Nirbhaya rape crisis centres have been cut from 660 to 36. Modernisation of Police fund has been slashed by more than 800 crores. Expect many more ‘Nirbhayas’ since all the resources are spent after rioters and murderers.
